How does Ripit determine a card's fair market value (FMV)?

Written by Support

What is fair market value?

Fair market value (FMV) is an estimate of what a card is currently worth; the price a willing buyer and seller would agree on. Ripit bases that estimate primarily on completed sales of comparable cards, drawing from Card Ladder and other industry sources that aggregate sale data from major marketplaces. These values provide a reference point for what cards have recently sold for, and are a reasonable estimate for a slab’s current value.

Does FMV change over time?

Yes, FMV can change significantly over time; both higher and lower. Trading card values are influenced by a variety of factors like player performance, pop reports, new set releases, and collector demand. Our pricing sources update as new sales data comes in, so the FMV may frequently change.
